Minute Studio 1.0.0

The first release of Minute Studio. It records a meeting, lecture or interview on your device, transcribes it as it happens, and drafts a structured briefing from the transcript.

Everything runs on your device. Both AI models ship inside the app, so no audio, transcript or briefing ever leaves it. There is no bot in the call and no account to create.

What's in 1.0.0

Recording

  • Record System Audio (whatever your device plays, from Zoom, Meet, Teams or any other app) or the Microphone. Choose the source before you start; it stays fixed for the whole recording.
  • Start, pause and stop from the main window, the menu-bar item or the Live menu: ⌘R to start, ⇧⌘R to pause or resume, ⌥⌘R to stop. A recording indicator stays visible the whole time.
  • Import Audio File… (⌘O) transcribes an audio or video file already on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
  • Stop after silence ends a recording that has heard nothing for a set time: 1 minute by default, or Never.
  • Voice Isolation (microphone only, in Settings ▸ Audio Input) reduces echo and background noise and keeps distant voices out of the transcript. The saved audio is left as it was recorded.
  • Instant Start keeps the transcription model loaded so a recording begins at once, at the cost of about 200 MB of memory while idle.
  • Recording other people may require their consent where you are. Getting it is your responsibility, as the Terms of Use you agree to on first launch say.

Transcription

  • The transcript appears as you record, in the language being spoken. The language is detected automatically, and a recording can move between languages.
  • Text that has settled is never rewritten while you read it; only the most recent words are corrected as more context arrives.
  • Stopping is instant: the live transcript is the one that is saved.
  • Transcripts are laid out in readable paragraphs. Press ⌘F to search one; the search stays as you move between sessions.

Briefings

  • Press Generate to draft a briefing. Minute Studio first works out whether the recording is a meeting, lecture, interview or something else, or you can choose the type yourself.
  • Every briefing starts with a Summary. The sections after it follow the type:
    • Meeting: Action Items, Decisions, Risks
    • Lecture: Key Concepts, Examples, Open Questions
    • Interview: Key Points, Notable Quotes
  • Choose which sections are drafted for each type in Settings ▸ Briefing. Sections that come back empty are left out.
  • Long recordings are handled in parts, and the Summary appears first.
  • A briefing is an AI draft. Check it before relying on it; it is not legal, medical or other professional advice.

Translation (macOS 15 or later)

  • Turn on Multi-language support in Settings ▸ Transcription to see the transcript and briefing side by side with a translation. It is off by default and uses Apple's on-device translation.
  • Pick the language to translate into. The source is the language detected in the recording. Language packs are installed by macOS, from Manage Languages….
  • Apple's translation is fast but can garble figures and formatting. Refine Translation re-translates the whole text with the bundled language model instead. It takes minutes on a long recording. A marker above the column says whether you are reading the Refined text or the Draft.
  • Translate a saved session into another language from the Library at any time. The original transcript is never changed.

Library

  • Every recording is kept on your device with its audio, transcript and briefing. Play the audio back and select or copy any text.
  • When a recording stops, keep it in the Library or move it to Recently Deleted.
  • Deleted sessions stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days, and you can restore them until then.

Export

  • Save the transcript, the briefing or both as Markdown, plain text or PDF, from the Live pane or the Library.
  • When a session has a translation, export the original alone or both languages together.
  • Exported files carry a short notice, which you can turn off in Settings ▸ File Export. A PDF that contains a briefing is always marked as AI-generated in its document metadata.
  • Choose the PDF text size in Settings ▸ File Export.

Privacy

No audio, transcript, briefing or translation ever leaves your device. There is no analytics, no crash reporting and no third-party networking code.

Only two things use the network:

  • Your license. Starting the trial, activating, renewing and confirming the license, moving it to another device, and getting your referral link when you ask for it. These requests go to one licensing server. They carry your license key or order number and a hashed identifier for your device (and, when you move the license, for the device you release), and nothing else.
  • Check for Updates…, and only when you choose it. It downloads one list of releases and sends nothing about you, your license or your device. Minute Studio never downloads or installs an update itself; it opens the download page in your browser.

Minute Studio does not encrypt your recordings itself. Turn on FileVault to protect them on disk.

Trial and licensing

  • 14-day free trial with every feature. No payment and no account. One trial per device, and starting it needs an internet connection once.
  • After the trial, choose Monthly, Yearly, or Perpetual (pay once, including 12 months of updates). Prices are shown in your own currency on the Minute Studio website.
  • Purchases are non-refundable, so use the trial to decide. A cancelled subscription stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Activate with the license key that comes by email. One license covers two devices.
  • Moving to another device. If the license is already on two devices, choose which one to release; each is listed by when it was activated and last confirmed. You can also release a device from Settings ▸ License ▸ Deactivate This Device. A license moves one device at a time: a released device stops recording within 60 days, and the next move waits until it has.
  • Every license, perpetual included, is confirmed online at least once every 60 days. This happens by itself when the app opens, wakes or comes to the front, never when you start a recording. If a device goes 60 days without confirming, recording pauses until it can. A notice under the capture button warns you during the last week.
  • If a license lapses, only recording and importing stop. Your library, playback, export, translation and briefings of recordings you already have keep working.
  • Refer a friend. In Settings ▸ Refer a Friend, get a link of your own. A friend who buys any plan with it gets 20% off. Fourteen days after their purchase, if it stands, your next payment moves 30 days later on Monthly or 60 days later on Yearly, or a perpetual license gets 90 more days of updates. You see how many friends bought, never who.
  • Perpetual updates. The version you own keeps working, with every feature, for as long as you use it. Versions released after your 12 months of updates end need an update renewal, and the app points you to the newest version your license covers. A renewal adds another 12 months.

System requirements

  • A Mac with Apple silicon. Intel Macs are not supported.
  • macOS 14.2 or later. Translation needs macOS 15 or later.
  • About 3 GB of disk space for the app, which includes both AI models, plus room for your recordings.
  • 16 GB of memory recommended.
  • An internet connection to start the trial, to activate, and at least once every 60 days after that.
  • Permission for the source you record from: Screen & System Audio Recording for system audio, or Microphone for the microphone. Only the one you use is needed.

Known limitations

  • No speaker labels yet. The transcript does not say who said what.
  • Recording system audio needs the Screen & System Audio Recording permission, because macOS offers no narrower one to a sandboxed app. Minute Studio keeps only the audio.
  • The language is detected about every 30 seconds, so two languages mixed within one sentence are transcribed as one.
  • Translation covers the languages Apple's on-device translation supports, about 20.
  • While a translation is being refined, recording and importing wait. Live ▸ Stop Refining ends the pass.
  • A device that never connects to the internet cannot start a trial, and one that cannot connect at least once every 60 days cannot keep recording.
  • No automatic updates. Use Check for Updates… to see whether a newer version is available.
  • No Word (DOCX) export.
